COVID-19 Vaccine – National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme – Community Pharmacy Campaign – Balrothery Pharmacy
Following EMA approval of the adapted Comirnaty XBB.1.5 vaccine at the end of August and NIAC recommendations on its use, the Department of Health has asked the HSE to implement the Autumn COVID-19 Vaccine Programme for 2023-24.
The following groups are recommended by NIAC for an autumn COVID-19 booster:
• those aged 50 years and older.
• those aged 5-49 with immunocompromise associated with a suboptimal response to vaccination.
• those aged 5-49 with medical conditions associated with a higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalisation,
severe disease or death.
• those aged 18-49 who, following discussion of their reasons with a health care provider (e.g., GP,
pharmacist or vaccination centre), request vaccination.
• health and care workers.
In addition, the following groups remain eligible for COVID-19 vaccination throughout the year:
• Primary Courses for those aged 6 months and older.
• First booster dose for people aged 18 years and over, or 12 years and over if immunocompromised.
• Pregnant women in the appropriate stage of pregnancy and where the appropriate time since last dose of vaccine has elapsed.
The recommended interval between the autumn booster and the last booster dose is 6 months for those aged 50 years and above and is also 6 months for those aged 5 years and above immunocompromised. For all others aged 5-49 years the recommended interval is 9 months.
In exceptional circumstances or for operational reasons the minimum interval of three months between booster doses can be used, for example to ensure early protection this autumn if the spring booster was given at least 3 months ago.
NIAC recommend that the COVID-19 autumn booster vaccine can be co-administered with the influenza vaccine, where a person is eligible for both vaccines, to maximise uptake.
Balrothery Pharmacy has been approved to administer COVID-19 vaccinations. Vaccinations will occur in Balrothery Pharmacy, Balrothery, North County Dublin, K32AY68.
